At its annual meeting on May 29, 2008, the Board of Trustees of Dominican University of California elected John R. Gaulding to serve as chairman of the Board for a two year term. He succeeds John F. Allen who served as chairman from 2003-2008.

John Allen was chair during a period of growth for Dominican, highlighted by the construction of the new Science Center, the largest enrollment each consecutive year, the move of the athletics program to NCAA Division II, the planned conversion of Edgehill Mansion to the Dominican Heritage and Alumni House, and plans for the new Field of Dreams, the all-weather multipurpose athletic field.

John Gaulding is assuming a role he served before; he was chairman of the Board of Trustees of Dominican from 1991 to 1994. When he retired from the Board, he was named trustee emeritus. He was honored with other Board chairs at a gala last year.

A photo caption in the San Francisco Chronicle on Sunday, June 22, 2008, erroneously stated that John Gaulding was President Joseph R. Fink's successor rather than John F. Allen's successor as Chairman of the Board.
